Gassers
Model Car Decals from Gofer Racing
Gassers were
unique cars that ran on the drag strips and NHRA tracks from the late 1950s and
continued into the 1970s. Gassers are basically the forerunner of today’s funny
car. The name “Gasser” was coined because they had to use gasoline and could
not use methanol or nitromethane. Gasser builders used a variety of body styles
from the 1930s to 1960s style cars. A lot of builders formed fiberglass body
parts to lighten the car. Gassers used truck axles on the front which lightened
the car and redistributed the weight to the rear wheels for more traction’s.
