Replicarz 1952 So-Cal Belly Tank Lakester 1:18 Scale Die-Cast Model R18002
Just after World War II, former Army Air Corps engineer Alex Xydias came up with a great publicity stunt for his So-Cal Speed Shop: turn a 315 gallon surplus P-38 belly fuel tank into a record-breaking race car. Initially powered by a Ford V8 he built with Vic Edelbrock, Sr., this original “lakester” would eventually set a one-way speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats of 198.34 mph in 1951—a record that still stands today! This 1:18 scale die-cast model of the So-Cal belly tanker captures all the streamlined details of the original, including louvers, complex suspension, and a removable bubble canopy and engine cowl. Inside, the Flathead Ford is complete with finned Edelbrock racing heads and Stromberg 97 carbs, and the tube-framed cockpit is filled with gauges and controls.
